Position: Front End Head Cashier

Reports to: Manager on Duty (MOD)

Department: Front End

Status: Non-exempt

Purpose: Under the general direction of the Manager on Duty this position helps monitor, organize, and coordinate Front End operations, provides leadership and structure for Front End personnel, and provides support to the Manager on Duty.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Customer Service

  • Greets customers. Demonstrates friendly and prompt service and acts as a role model for staff.
  • Answers phones and gives excellent phone service. Routes and filters calls to the appropriate departments. 
  • Knows and adheres to company service standards as outlined by management and the owner.
  • Assists in any other departments as needed.

Communication

  • Is respectful at all times.
  • Responds to feedback and suggestions constructively.
  • Communicates openly and honestly with all others in the organization.
  • Handles all internal disagreements off of the sales floor and away from customers.
  • Resolves conflicts respectfully and in a timely manner. Asks for assistance from the appropriate supervisor(s) as needed.
  • Checks communication log and Turnip Truck email at the beginning of each shift.

Personal Effectiveness

  • Adheres to all dress-code and company uniform policies.
  • Reports to work for scheduled shifts, on-time.
  • Understands and adheres to organizational and departmental policy and procedures.
  • Accepts direction willingly and follows through with delegated tasks.
  • Cooperates and quickly adapts to new guidelines and tasks.
  • Maintains job-related confidentiality.
  • Performs tasks consistently at an acceptable rate as outlined by MODs.
  • Achieves established goals and expected results for the department.
  • Organizes tasks efficiently, maintains focus and stays productive.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Delegates daily activities of Front End Clerks (cashiers), including assigning tasks and ensuring break schedules are followed, in accordance with the Manager on Duty.
  • Trains new cashiers and provides ongoing feedback to ensure they attain and maintain competency.
  • Responds to customer service needs, both in person and over the phone, quickly and respectfully.
  • Ensures Front End operates efficiently, monitors customer flow, and rings for cashiers and front end personnel as needed.
  • Monitors cashier over/shorts and alerts Manager on Duty to cash accountability issues.
  • Processes open rings, returns, discounts and paid outs.
  • Problem-solves system and equipment errors. Alerts Manager on Duty to the issues if necessary.
  • Communicates through a daily end-of-shift email to all MODs.
  • Recommends corrective action (to MODs) as necessary.
  • Maintains accurate safe balance, and ensures all money-handling procedures are followed.

Essential Skills

  • 2-3 years cashiering and customer service experience.
  • Strong understanding of and ability to problem-solve front end POS (Point of Sale) and computer systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as the Turnip Truck employee handbook.
  • Ability to prioritize work tasks, multi-task and maintain focus.
  • Ability to communicate politely and effectively with customers and employees.
  • Interest in natural foods.
